The Story Told

“Water ripples and the sun shines
One must always read between the lines
The fine print smaller than your esteem
The price bigger than all your dreams
Back at the river, the rapids run strong
Your whole life feels oh so wrong
Always to look, but never to touch
Dying silently when it gets too much
Feeling your heart break and your soul split
You’re all alone as luck would have it
There’s madness in your brain
And you feel as if you’ve gone insane
You wish to wake up with amnesia
Wish to wake up with a reason
A reason to continue, to smile
But home feels father away with every mile
Wish you were homeward bound
For you are lost and wish to be found
Deaf and cannot hear a sound
So alone even with people around
So scared in dark even though there’s light
So tired of having to fight
For once you wish someone would stand by your side
To hold your hand and be your guide
These nights seem long, and you cannot see
You’re bound by chains and beg to be set free
Saying, ‘Just once I want someone to care about me’
But in the end, it seems there is nobody
For the blind cannot see the love that surrounds them
Covering the mirrors because you hate what you’ve become
Seeing your reflection in the ripple of the waves
Tired of seeing yourself buried in graves
So you stand upon the bank and face the truth
Looking not at the devil but your youth
Seeing the shadow linger behind
No longer to it are you confined
The water ripples and a sight to behold
You finally see yourself through crystal eyes, no buffer, no blindfold
You see the beauty in every feature
You finally see that beauty isn’t a mythical creature
It lives within you and now you can see
That those chains have been broken and you are set free
Water ripples and the sun shines
Lift your chin and let them see you shine
And they say in awe, ‘an angel with a heart made of gold’
You have the pen, rewrite the way the story’s told”
