Those Who Behold

‘“Beauty is in the eye of the beholder’
A wish so desperately to be older
To see the world in shining lights
To not be afraid of the nights
To look at the dark and feel no fear
To fall asleep at night without shedding a single tear
To be loved and have a family of our own
To fall asleep next to someone so we’re not alone
The aspirations of the young mind, they glamour the ugly truth
And we’ll wish to go back and live in our youth
When we grow up and see the world and all our innocence sheds
We see them, we know they’re there, we check for the monsters under our beds
But they don’t live there, they live in our heads
They go where we go and sleep where we sleep
It feels like they are the Shepherd and we are the sheep
But have you ever seen the light at the end of the tunnel?
Seen the end of our trouble?
Have you seen the wings that fly beyond?
Seen the doves that when we call, they respond?
Felt the love in your heart?
Seen the Demon’s counterpart?
Heard the Angels sing?
Flown on those golden wings?
Looked up so high that the Heavens seem home?
Watched as the Seraphim dance and roam?
Have you wondered why the sun shines?
Where are our guidelines?
Have you ever wondered why the sun sets?
Ever wonder how you have so many regrets?
The Light is overcome by Darkness
The love replaced with the heartless
But the Light continues to fight, and it rises and consumes the dark
The clouds disappear and in its wake is the golden arc
As a child, all we saw was safe and scary
We believed in the monsters and the faeries
We looked up to our parents because they were always here
We didn’t know what would happen when they disappear
Now we see why mom was so tired
We see what they did and who they inspired
We see their fight and we feel the battle call
We see how our beauty started small
It grew as we did, and it didn’t die
We were blinded and the mirror, it loved to lie
We see who we’ve become and how far we came
That none of us are to blame
That no one should be ashamed
Life, we all go through it
We can submit or we can persist
Our parents chose to fight even when the Demons settled in
The looked at their children and those eyes told them to win
It is a battle between the ages
Each new war fills the pages
We can fight or lay our weapons down
We can choose to survive or to break down
Life fills us with memories we cannot forget
Leaves us with Demons who’ll always be a threat
We’ll see ourselves in the years to come
And be glad we refused to succumb
We have come from our cocoon
Risen and faced the moon
We spread our wings and take to the air
We’ll see ourselves and realize the beauty was always there
Life: it is a circle, the Light rises and it sets, it burns, and it smolders
And beauty will always be in the eyes of the beholders”
